Safeguarding Adults

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and understanding its principles is crucial for all.
Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. (DHSC, 2014, 14.7)
Safeguarding adults focuses on protecting individuals with care and support needs from:

  • Physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, and financial abuse
  • Neglect and self-neglect
  • Domestic violence
  • Modern slavery

It also means acting swiftly when abuse or neglect is suspected to prevent further harm.
