What we do
What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and understanding its principles is crucial for all.
Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect (DHSC, Care and Support Statutory Guidance 2014, 14.7 Care and support statutory guidance – GOV.UK).
Safeguarding adults focuses on protecting individuals with care and support needs from:
- Physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, and financial abuse
- Neglect
- Self-neglect
- Domestic violence
- Modern slavery
- Organisational abuse
- Discriminatory abuse
- Risk of radicalisation and extremism
The Board is also responsible for overseeing support to people who are either homeless or rough sleeping with care and support needs.
It also means acting swiftly when abuse or neglect is suspected to prevent further harm.
Harrow Safeguarding Adults Board (HSAB)
The Care Act 2014 mandates the establishment of Safeguarding Adults Boards (SABs) in every local authority area. Harrow’s SAB includes statutory partners:
- The Local Authority (London Borough of Harrow)
- The Police (The Metropolitan Police)
- Clinical Commissioning Groups (now Integrated Care Board-NHS North West London)
The HSAB also has a range of other statutory and voluntary community sector providers as part of its membership. Together they coordinate and ensure effective collaboration among local agencies to protect and support adults at risk of abuse and/or neglect in Harrow. Its primary focus is on preventing abuse and neglect while promoting well-being and safeguarding individual rights.
This website serves as a valuable resource for the residents of Harrow, as well as health and social care professionals and organisations working with those residents.
Our goal is to work together to create a safer community where adults at risk are supported and empowered. Making Safeguarding Personal is critical to our way of working.
